Harvia Ltd. is the world’s leading manufacturer of sauna heaters and is the market leader in the Finnish sauna heater sector. In addition to heaters, Harvia produces saunas as well as sauna accessories and steam rooms.
The family run company started in 1950 with the founder Tapani Harvia. Tapani Harvia had fond memories of a continuously heated stove he experienced during his youth and had a plan to reproduce this. As a result of Tapani Harvia’s hard work, professional skill and innovative style, Harvia sauna heaters were the start of a huge success story.
He made the first wood burning Harvia stove for his own use in 1950. The first Harvia stoves intended for sale were manufactured in the mid-1950 and by the late 1950s Harvia initiated the manufacture of continuously heated stoves.
In the early 1970s Harvia moved to the town of Muurame and constructed a new factory hall there. Throughout the 1970s the company grew at a pace of some 30% annually. The oil crisis of the 1970s actually promoted the business of Finnish wood burning stove manufacturers: wood burning stoves grew popular, as they used domestic fuel, which was in line with the energy-saving recommendations.
The 1980s brought a demand for electric heaters and these were manufactured by Harvia for the first time. These stoves were produced alongside the company’s wood burning stoves. This trend and dedication has continued to for the strong company Harvia is today.
In fifty years, Harvia developed from a small workshop into a company with 180 employees. Today Harvia is the world’s leading manufacturer of sauna heaters. The company manufactures over 150,000 Harvia stoves annually and exports to 65 countries.
When you purchase a Harvia sauna you’re not simply buying any sauna. You can be sure that you’re purchasing one of the finest products the sauna industry has to offer; a sauna with soul.
